Most of this canvas is left bare — wide stretches of untouched linen, silvered grey, with only a handful of roses falling through it at loose, uneven intervals. Yellow and rose-pink against quiet emptiness.
This kind of restraint is unusual for Anastassia Skopp, who often fills her compositions densely, layer over layer. Here, she didn’t. The space between the flowers carries as much weight as the flowers themselves — maybe more.
Looking at this painting feels less like looking at a garden in bloom, and more like noticing the pauses between things — the ones usually too brief to catch.
