Held in Dusk (2026) Original Oil Painting by Hannah Ivory Baker

104 x 104 x 6cm (framed)

£5,000

Held in Dusk is an atmospheric oil painting exploring the quiet transition between daylight and evening, when the last warmth of the sky begins to fade into the landscape.

Soft washes of peach, pale gold and muted cream sit above a darker, loosely defined horizon. There is a stillness to the composition, with much of the detail left unresolved, allowing the light and atmosphere to become the focus of the painting.

I worked intuitively, building and removing layers of oil paint with palette knives and brushes, allowing the landscape to emerge through the process rather than following a predetermined composition. Areas of softer, blended colour sit alongside more expressive marks and textured passages of paint.

I'm particularly drawn to these fleeting moments in the landscape, when the light changes almost imperceptibly and familiar places become something less easily defined. Held in Dusk is as much about that feeling of quiet and transience as it is about a particular place.

An original oil painting created in my North London studio.
