Year 1905. Expressionism appeared as a sharp response to deformity of capitalistic civilization, First World War and revolutionary movement. The generation was messed up by war massacre and perceived the reality through the emotions of fear, anxiety and disappointment. Motives of pain and scream are widely spread. Expressionists had as main aim not to reproduce the reality, but to show the emotion caused by this reality. Different shifts, exaggerations, simplifications, use of strong red rimmed colors and sharp heart-pounding contours.
“Garish” is, probably, one of the brightest samples of the Expressionism of New Time. It’s some kind of response to works of maestros of the past. I want to look at the expressionism from a new angle. But my expression is forward to a positive stream and it lives, breathes and moves. Also, it energizes with incentive feelings. Scream is expressing of emotion. It has an important social and cultural purpose and is used for absolutely different aims. It may be a cheerful shout of football fan because of the victory of his favorite team, isn’t true? Thus, I consider the scream can be colorful and bright. My “Garish” is precisely this.
