Original artwork description
During a visit to a bright, modern bookstore, I had seen this stack of brand-new, flawlessly printed biography books on Marilyn Monroe carefully arranged on a bookshelf.
Looking at the books, I couldn't help but realize that this is all that remains. A whole life, complete with its towering triumphs and deep private sorrows, is neatly packaged as a consumer product.
A lifetime of human experience is bound tightly between two covers, now sitting on a retail shelf with a price tag attached to it that could never do justice to her life and the joy she gave to the world.
Forever Marilyn (2011) is meticulously created with acrylic on 44 x 39,5 cm panel. It comes beautifully framed, signed on the front and reverse. It is accompanied by my official studio label alongside a hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity.
