Forest Mirror (2024) Original Oil Painting by Tetiana Surshko

Shafts of pale light cut diagonally through a forest of blue and green, and a small pond at the edge of the trees catches the scene in its still surface. Forest Mirror is a large night landscape where darkness is painted not in black but in cobalt, teal and ultramarine, with lime green foliage flaring wherever light touches it. Tall trunks stand like columns, the beams cross between them in long soft strokes, and the water repeats the trees as loose vertical reflections.

It belongs to my Nocturne in Oil series, where night scenes are built from colour rather than shadow. The mood is hushed and slightly unreal, that moment in a forest when light seems to come from nowhere and the water is calmer than the air. The title names what the pond does: it holds a second forest, quieter than the first.

At 100 x 70 cm it is a statement piece for a living room, bedroom or reading corner, bringing depth and calm to neutral or dark walls. Oil on stretched canvas, arrives ready to hang. Signed.
