False Exit (2026) Original Oil Painting by Clint Dean

121.92 x 91.44 x 1.27cm

£1,798.19

False Exit explores the tension between movement, confinement, and the uncertainty of finding a way forward.

Deep blue-black, charcoal, and muted green create a dark architectural environment, interrupted by a narrow vertical opening of pale yellow light. Fine, fractured lines radiate across the surface, suggesting corridors, intersecting structures, and pathways that may lead somewhere—or nowhere at all.

Developed through an intuitive process of layering, obscuring, and rebuilding, the painting balances rigid architectural suggestions with expressive, unpredictable marks. Scraped textures and partially concealed passages reveal traces of the painting's evolution.

Rather than offering a clear destination, False Exit invites the viewer to question whether the apparent opening represents escape, possibility, or another uncertainty.
