This piece belongs to my new "David" series, yet it represents its counterpart—the shadow side of the David figure. While David embodies courage and the will to stand up against something greater than oneself, this painting stands for ego: for pride, vanity, and the tragedy of a being once perfect, yet fallen precisely because of that perfection.
Once, I was in Eden. I am the most beautiful and radiant angel; yet no one acknowledges it.
This is the voice of Lucifer, the "Light-Bringer," cast out not for weakness, but for the unbearable weight of his own brilliance—a story about the danger of believing oneself above all others, and how easily light can turn into darkness when it forgets humility.
The masterpiece L'Ange déchu, created in 1847 by French painter Alexandre Cabanel, is one of the most striking depictions of Lucifer in classical art. This is my reinterpretation: a meditation on ego, the fall from grace, and mistaking our own light for the source it came from.
