Original artwork description
This work was inspired by a park near my home - a familiar everyday place that I often observe rather than simply pass through. I am drawn to the small, spontaneous moments that happen in public spaces: people playing, resting, talking, walking, and simply being together.
In this painting, the large blue fence creates a visual division between the viewer and the scene beyond it. It becomes a kind of boundary between myself as an observer and the people in the park. We can see their lives unfolding, but there is always a certain distance between us and them. I wanted to capture that feeling of quietly watching the world while remaining slightly outside of it.
I work with a combination of pen, watercolor markers, acrylic, and pencils. I particularly enjoy combining different materials and textures within one piece. The contrast between the expressive, tactile blue forms of the fence and the lively, detailed park creates different visual rhythms and layers.
Materials used:
gouache, markers, pencils
