Ecailles IV

A portrait suspended between shadow and light, Ecailles IV explores the intimate connection between the human figure and the instinctive, mysterious world of the serpent.

The snake moves across the face like a living veil, partially concealing the woman’s features while drawing attention to the single illuminated side of her face. Its body continues around her neck, creating a powerful visual connection between the figure and the animal.

The closed eyes introduce a sense of introspection and surrender, while the serpent evokes transformation, instinct, danger and renewal. The contrast between the delicate skin and the intricate texture of the scales reinforces the tension between vulnerability and strength.

Deep blue-black tones and controlled, cinematic light create an atmosphere that feels almost ritualistic. The image deliberately leaves part of the face hidden, inviting the viewer to look beyond the visible and consider what lies beneath the surface.
