Some years ago, while painting on location, I found myself captivated by this old church. The way the sunlight filtered through the trees—and how the shadows danced back and forth across the scene—made it irresistible to paint. There was a quiet poetry in the contrast of warm light and cool shadow that I wanted to honor on the canvas.
I used impressionistic knife and brushwork to build a rich surface of thick oil paint, letting the texture itself become part of the storytelling. The result is a piece that still brings me joy; in fact, I was admiring it again this morning as it hangs on my kitchen wall.
