Desert Rose -1 (2016)Mixed-media sculpture by Swapna Namboodiri

'Qatar Museum' recently shared a video about desert rose in their social media. Got inspired and created this piece after that. Eventhough the name is 'Desert rose', its not a flower, buts its rose-like formations of crystal clusters of gypsum or baryte which include abundant sand grains too. Interesting isn't it!
In my works the texture is created with plastic bottles! Each piece is intricately cut and painted and assembled together to get a desert rose structure on a small 10 cm canvas
I am presenting this piece even more proudly since it is completely recycled from plastic bottle scraps. I believe, this way I am doing my part for the nature.
The work is done one a canvas block and plastic bottles are carved and painted and resin coated on to the canvas.
It will be signed and dated, and certificate of authenticity will be attached.
