Definitely Alive (2026) Original Oil Painting by Alexandr Klemens
50 x 50 x 1cm (unframed) / 50 x 50cm (actual image size)
£531.05
Original artwork description
Definitely Alive is the first painting from my new series, Cats Ignore Schrödinger.
A curious cat looks out from a cardboard box, entirely unconcerned with the famous paradox surrounding its existence. Instead of remaining suspended between two theoretical states, it appears alert, present and unmistakably alive.
The painting approaches Schrödinger’s thought experiment with gentle irony. The box becomes both a physical object and a boundary between theory and lived experience. The cat does not attempt to solve the paradox—it simply ignores it.
Expressive brushwork and partially abstracted surfaces contrast the soft blue-grey fur, golden eyes and rough material of the cardboard. The direct gaze gives the animal an active role, as though it were observing us rather than being observed.
