About Alexandr Klemens

Biography

I am a professional painter based in the Czech Republic. I was born into a family of artists and grew up surrounded by painting, illustration and visual culture. Before fully dedicating myself to painting, I studied architecture, which still influences the way I work with space, structure and light.

I have been exhibiting my work since 1991. In 2008, I founded my own gallery in Prague, where I have continued to present my paintings and develop my artistic practice. My works are held in private collections in many countries.

My painting moves between figurative and abstract approaches. In my figurative works, I often return to cafés, urban interiors and architectural spaces, where light becomes the main force shaping atmosphere and human presence. These paintings are not only about places, but about moments of shared life, memory, solitude and quiet connection.

Alongside this, I develop abstract works focused on perception and inner states — moments before an image becomes fixed, when emotion, thought and visual experience still remain open and unstable.

My work is rooted in the European painting tradition, especially in the sensitivity to light and atmosphere found in Impressionism, while remaining connected to contemporary questions of perception, presence and human experience.

I also teach drawing and graphic techniques at an art college, which keeps my relationship with visual language alive, precise and constantly evolving..
