DEADLY IDYLL (2024) Original Painting by Paolo Scaglioni

In this work, I glued two sheets of ordinary paper, printed with a uniform black inkjet background, onto a canvas. I then proceeded to scratch, scrape, and tear the surface away, gradually revealing an image that evokes a lake landscape, with vegetation and snow emerging in the foreground.
What interests me most is the paradox inherent in the process: the image is created through subtraction. Rather than adding material to construct the picture, I arrive at the image by removing, eroding, and disrupting the surface.

Materials used:

paper sheets, water, glue, white acrylic
