2021, "关雎 (Crying Ospreys)" - stone wall sculpture

This original melted volcanic rock wall sculpture is one of the latest artworks of the skilful Bulgarian contemporary professional sculptor Ognyan Chitakov, deeply inspired by naturalism, postmodernism and zen art. The artwork represents the artist's idea of beauty and aesthetics in general. The stones are melted at high degree temperatures, reaching the point where they are back to their origin magma state and then slowly cooled down for days. The artist's concept is to restart the formation of the material and bring it naturally to a new organic shape and name it after beautiful ancient Chinese poems. This wall sculpture is one extraordinary melted stone masterpiece and exquisite modern home wall décor.

The first verse of the poem Crying Ospreys that expresses a man’s loving feelings toward a woman is so widely known in China that the phrase “窈窕淑女 Yao Tiao Shu Nv” has become a proper term for fair ladies. As the first poem of the earliest collection of Chinese poetry, Shi Jing (the Book of Songs), “Crying Ospreys” has been spoken highly of by Chinese scholars from all times, including Confucius, who commented that the poem was “expressive of enjoyment without being licentious, and of grief without being hurtfully excessive.”
