Crimson Dance (2025) Original Oil Painting by Vitaly Leshukov Soldatov

A field of red poppies rises through this tall vertical composition, combining the recognisable forms of flowers with areas of expressive abstraction. Crimson reds, deep dark accents and open passages of light create a strong sense of rhythm and movement.
I built the surface mainly with a palette knife, applying oil paint in substantial layers. The raised impasto gives the flowers a physical presence and allows the surface to change as daylight moves across it. From a distance the composition reads as a vibrant field of poppies; at closer range, individual marks, ridges and layers of colour become increasingly visible.
The unusual vertical format makes the painting particularly suitable for a tall or narrow wall, while its strong red palette creates a distinctive colour accent in a contemporary interior.
