Original artwork description
Counterpart is a diptych built on a single composition stated twice. On the left, the arrangement exists as a flat painted field: bars of black, burgundy, green, and blue held in balance against a quiet grey ground, crossed by a line of gold leaf. On the right, the same structure steps off the surface as a wood relief, with painted boards, dowels, and reclaimed timber casting real shadows where the painting implies them.
Colors shift in translation. The green turns to teal and the burgundy brightens to red, so the two panels read as a conversation rather than a copy. Drawing on the Constructivist and De Stijl traditions, the work asks what changes when an image gains a third dimension, and what stays the same.
Two panels, 18 × 24 in each. Signed.
