Artwork description
In Sept-Îles, corrugated metal dominates the landscape. Architecturally, it is not the most attractive feature, but from a photographic standpoint—when the light is intense and strikes the surface at a near-parallel angle—it yields semi-abstract images of great graphic beauty.
A high-contrast, black and white photograph captures the stark facade of a building constructed from corrugated metal. The image is dominated by strong vertical lines of the siding, accentuated by dramatic, sharp shadows cast by an unseen light source, possibly the sun. These shadows create a dynamic, geometric pattern across the textured surface. Three windows, symmetrically placed with clean white frames, punctuate the wall, with the central one positioned above a weathered door. The window panes are partially obscured by blinds or curtains, diffusing the light within. The overall mood is austere and graphic, emphasizing the interplay between texture, light, and shadow in an architectural context.
Printed on 100% cotton paper—free of acid and optical brighteners (Fine Art print on Red River Palo Duro Softgloss Rag 315 gsm paper) using Epson pigment inks. The paper measures 25 in x 17 in, and the image measures 23.4 in x 13.2 in. Consequently, the image is surrounded by a margin.
