Original artwork description
In this painting, I wanted to bring together the materiality of wall plaster, treating it as a kind of faux frame, somewhat “Baroque” in character, with the linearity and expressiveness of the face.
I find the contrast particularly interesting: the whiteness of the frame, with its bumps, irregularities, and raised texture, set against the portrait, which is entirely scratched, torn, and scraped.
As mentioned, the frame is made using spatula-applied wall plaster, while the portrait is created from sheets of paper worked and manipulated using the techniques described above.
