I used to pass this door nearly everyday when on my way to my studio when living in Chertsey, Surrey. The 'New Chertsey Art Club' had taken over what had been the council offices in Guildford Street and this shop was in the same block. All were awaiting demolition, which finally came, but the six years we had this magnificent old building were great fun and a lot of fantastic work was produced here- both in the studios, the print room ( the council chamber), and in the life room-previously the architects drawing office with overhead windows and fabulous light.
The shop was never occupied while I was there but was an interesting feature in the street and so became one of this series of doors and doorways.
