Black and White — 01 is an original abstract painting created in Barcelona, exploring the space between expression and silence.
The work is built on a dark surface crossed by layers of grey calligraphic gestures. The marks accumulate, overlap and intersect, creating a dense composition that seems to move between structure and spontaneity.
I work without preparatory sketches. Each gesture responds to the one before it, allowing the composition to develop through improvisation. The lettering is deliberately unreadable: it does not belong to an existing alphabet and does not communicate a specific sentence. Instead, the marks become a visual language made of movement, rhythm and emotion.
The title Black and White refers to the idea of opposites, but there is deliberately no pure white in the work. The grey lettering occupies the space between light and darkness, certainty and ambiguity, expression and silence.
For me, this painting is about what exists between saying something and saying nothing — the moment when a thought becomes a gesture before it becomes a word.
This work can be displayed independently or together with Black and White — 02, forming a diptych in which two different compositions share the same visual language.
