Blue Lake (2018) Original Oil Painting by Tetiana Surshko

80 x 60 x 1cm (unframed) / 80 x 60cm (actual image size)

£1,171.21

Blue Lake is a forest lake at the blue hour, painted almost entirely in one color. Bare black trees frame the view on both sides like the wings of a stage, a line of dark pines stands on the far island, violet and silver shrubs crowd the banks, and two white birds cross the open sky above the water. The light is that short moment after sunset when everything turns blue and the lake still holds a pale glow near the horizon.

The painting belongs to my Luminous Landscapes series, where I chase light in nature, from misty mornings to glowing dusks. This is the quietest piece of the series and the most graphic: the trunks and branches are drawn in sharp black lines against soft blended blue, so the painting works like a silhouette and a landscape at once. The purple and lilac in the bushes are the only warm notes, and they keep the blue from feeling cold.

The canvas measures 80 x 60 cm (31.5 x 23.6 in), a horizontal format that sits well above a sofa, a bed or a sideboard. It is a calming painting for a bedroom, a living room, a reading corner or an office, and it looks especially strong on a white or pale grey wall where the blue can breathe. From across the room it reads as a clear scene, up close the surface shows the layered brushwork of the foliage and the knife texture in the water.

It is painted in oil on stretched canvas with brushes and a palette knife, the sky and water blended smooth and the shrubs built up in thick dabs of paint. The work is signed and varnished, the sides are painted, and it arrives ready to hang with no frame needed.

It ships stretched on its wooden bars in a sturdy protective box, never rolled, by tracked and insured courier from Lisbon, Portugal, usually within 3 to 5 working days. Keep it away from direct sunlight and damp, dust it with a soft dry cloth, and the varnish will protect the colors for decades. If you have a question about the painting or would like to see it in a particular interior, send me a message, I reply quickly.
