Before the Light (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Anna Shelvey

Before the Light is part of my ongoing exploration of coastal abstraction, moving beyond the traditional horizon to focus instead on atmosphere, colour and memory.

Inspired by the changing light along the Kent coastline, this painting is intentionally open to interpretation. Layers of turquoise, soft mauve and deep blue suggest the sea without defining it, allowing the viewer to discover their own landscape within the work.

Rather than capturing a specific place, I wanted to capture the feeling of standing by the water as light shifts and familiar forms begin to dissolve.

Painted with professional acrylics on stretched canvas, the edges are painted and the painting is supplied ready to hang.

Signed on the reverse and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
