Australian Icon (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Vasily Kulchenko

28 x 28 x 5.5cm (framed)

£603.91

Australian Icon is a contemporary interpretation of one of Australia’s most recognisable animals.

The kangaroo is placed at the centre of the composition and reduced to a series of strong geometric forms and colour planes. Rather than depicting the animal in a traditional realistic manner, I have explored its silhouette, movement and character through abstraction and simplified Cubist shapes.

Warm ochres, terracotta, earthy browns, deep greens, navy and soft cream create a distinctly Australian palette, while the large circular form behind the kangaroo adds a sense of light and balance to the composition.

The surrounding shapes suggest landscape without becoming a traditional landscape scene, allowing the kangaroo itself to remain the main focus.

The work is presented in a natural wooden frame, complementing the warm colours and tactile character of the painting.

An original contemporary Australian artwork combining wildlife, geometry and colour in a distinctive modern style.
