AN AGENT FROM THE HEREAFTER (2015) Original Acrylic Painting by Paolo Scaglioni

150 x 70 x 2cm (unframed) / 150 x 70cm (actual image size)

£2,906.42

Can an amphora become so profoundly anthropomorphic that it begins to assume a human presence? In this work, the subject appears to emerge from an elsewhere that remains deliberately undefined—a space reduced to a single illuminated form against a black ground.
The work explores the threshold between presence and absence, the familiar and the uncanny, and the human impulse to give form to what cannot be known. Its title is borrowed from a 1977 science-fiction novel by G. O’Toole, reinforcing the work’s meditation on otherness, the unknown, and the possibility of an existence beyond the visible.
Executed in acrylic on canvas, the painting deliberately rejects blending and gradual tonal transitions. Colour is applied through direct, decisive gestures, preserving the immediacy of the painterly act. The resulting image confronts the viewer with a form that is at once recognizable and estranged, suspended between object and figure, presence and apparition.
