Amphibious explores the friction between mid-century optimism and modern consumer cynicism. The artwork uses a 1960s amphibious car as a visual metaphor for human ambition. I'm poking fun at an era when society believed technology could effortlessly conquer all, by subverting the hyper-sanitised, flawless world of vintage advertising. Mid-century marketing - or perhaps all - made/makes promises that buying into the latest innovation would unlock ultimate freedom. The artwork strips away corporate glamour to expose the underlying absurdity of these consumer promises.
