I am a people watcher. I’m fascinated by societal behaviours and the back stories that drive them. I have been practicing as an artist for fifteen years and full-time for five. I’m compelled to conjure fanciful narratives, I use mostly iconic marketing images and tropes to accentuate contradictions. With a professional background in global media and graphic design, I am intrigued by how we communicate and process culture. This manifests in two distinct directions: my pop art paintings and minimal abstracts of which I employ mostly acrylics, pencil and ink. My pop art, is mostly playful - sometimes dark - in its manipulation of marketing imagery to reveal honest, modern realities. In contrast, my loose, minimal abstract work is introspective. It relies heavily on plein air experiences. These two styles help balance the intensity of mixed media process and keeps me motivated. Whether working with bold figures or stripped-back abstraction, I am driven by narrative and to challenge assumptions.
