"All Along" (2026) Original Oil Painting by Julia Borg

All Along was inspired by my visit to Giverny in spring 2026. Alongside the bright, open areas of the garden, I was drawn to places where flowers emerged from deep shade and intense colour appeared against dark foliage.

Created later in my studio, the painting developed through layered passages of orange, violet, yellow, blue, pink and green. Tall stems and clusters of flowers rise through the composition, while the dark background gives the brighter colours a luminous intensity. The forms remain loose and expressive, shifting between a recognisable garden and abstraction.

For me, the title describes the moment of realising that something you had been searching for was already present — quietly waiting to be noticed. Influenced by Giverny and Impressionism, the painting explores contrast, colour and the emotional experience of discovering light within darkness.
