Afterimage (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Lady RedHorns

20.5 x 25.5 x 2cm (unframed) / 20.5 x 25.5cm (actual image size)

£249.42

This original figurative expressionist painting explores the human figure through expressive color, gestural marks, and abstraction. Created in acrylic on canvas, it reflects a contemporary approach to figurative art in which the figure emerges from and dissolves into the surrounding visual space.

Part of the Afterimage series, the work explores the fleeting nature of perception and memory. Rather than presenting the figure as a separate subject, I construct it from the same visual language as its surroundings: layers of color, lines, marks, and spontaneous gestures. The body becomes both recognizable and unstable, shifting between figuration and abstraction the longer it is observed.

Expressive brushwork and fragmented forms create movement and psychological tension, inviting the viewer to discover new details within the composition. The result is a contemporary figurative artwork rooted in expressionism, where emotion and perception take precedence over literal representation.
