Afterglow is an oil painting from the series Present Tense. Slender trunks rise through a forest where orange and yellow light burns on one side and cool blue shadow settles on the other. A small yellow point of light glows just right of center, like a lantern or a distant window. Loose, layered brushwork dissolves the warm and cold fields into each other, while yellow blossoms in the foreground anchor the picture. The landscape feels familiar but belongs to no particular place. It is the moment when the day is already leaving but still fully present. Oil on canvas, 80 × 55 cm.
