About paul fowler

Biography

My paintings begin with an idea rather than an image. I am interested in how abstraction can communicate memory, relationships, joy, grief, and the experiences that shape our lives without relying on recognizable imagery. Every painting starts with a specific question, and through layers of paint, veils, geometry, scraping, and revision I gradually discover the answer. The process is less about executing a plan than uncovering something that wasn't visible when I began. My background in architecture has had a lasting influence on the way I think about painting. Structure, balance, rhythm, and spatial relationships provide a framework, but intuition, chance, and emotion ultimately determine where the work goes. I enjoy the tension between control and discovery, allowing each painting to evolve through many stages until it feels complete. I hope my work invites viewers to slow down and bring their own experiences to the painting. Rather than telling a single story, I want each piece to leave room for personal interpretation and quiet reflection. If someone returns to a painting months or years later and discovers something new within it, then I feel the work has succeeded. I want to join Artfinder because it connects independent artists with collectors who value original contemporary art and the stories behind it. I welcome the opportunity to share my work with an international audience and to place my paintings in homes where they will be lived with, revisited, and appreciated over time.
