About Alan Bateman
Biography
I need the art I produce to be overall aesthetically pleasing to me and this has more importance than trying to “represent” the subject. The process of making the painting can also determine the finished product as much as the subject. Having said that there probably is no finishing, and the end of one artwork is often the beginning of the next.
I am a romantic painter at heart and I view the landscape through the lens of social and landscape history, vernacular architecture, folklore and ecology. I also view it within the context of early twentieth century European and British art.
