Whisky River (2026) Original Mixed-media Painting by Neil McVicar

Inspired by a childhood memory of a Scout trip into the heart of The Trossachs in West Scotland, Whisky River captures the unexpected, haunting beauty of a Scottish peat-stained stream. Tucked beneath the shadow of dense, atmospheric pines and steep riverbanks, the rushing water shifts dramatically from frothing amber cascades to a deep, blood-red pool in the foreground. The vibrant interplay of warm, golden water tones against cool, mist-shrouded greens and blues evokes both the mystery of the highland wilderness and the elemental waters that give life to Scottish whisky. Painted with rich, layered brushwork and luminous light, this piece celebrates the quiet wonder, adventure, and folklore carved into the Scottish landscape.
