Where the Sky Splits (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Olivia Miles

30.5 x 30.5 x 2cm (unframed)

£100

Loose forms in blue, charcoal and burnt orange gather at the corners and edges of the canvas, leaving a wide, luminous fracture of pale cream and blue running diagonally through the centre; a sky pulled apart by the storm.

The Story

Where the Sky Splits is part of The Sublime Horizon, a collection inspired by the fleeting beauty of a distant thunderstorm I watched roll across the horizon from my garden. From a place of safety, the storm transformed the sky into a luminous expanse of orange, immense natural power becoming unexpectedly serene. This piece captures the moment the clouds start to rumble, light cutting a path through the darker mass gathered above; where violence disrupts what was once calm. Painted with bold colour, expressive brushwork and richly textured impasto, it explores the paradox at the heart of the sublime: the coexistence of awe and tranquillity, chaos and beauty.
