Original artwork description
Where It’s Quiet is a smaller watercolor painting from my series inspired by Japan, created after I returned home from studying there.
While living in Japan, I often felt deeply alone and unable to integrate into the society around me, even though I wanted to. Nature became one of the few things that gave me a sense of calm. Bamboo, gardens, soft rain, and quiet green spaces helped me feel connected to something gentle and alive.
This work is based on sketches and memories from that period. Compared to the other paintings in the series, it has a more intimate and peaceful atmosphere. The bamboo is surrounded by soft washes of green, creating the feeling of a hidden place — somewhere still, private, and protected from the outside world.
The painting is about finding a quiet refuge inside loneliness.
