When Spring Comes - Linocut Linocut by Layla Khani (aka Laylart)

When Spring Comes is an original hand-pulled reduction linocut inspired by the freshness and colour of spring in the countryside around my Malvern Hills studio.

White cottages sit among fresh green fields, trees and purple spring flowers, with layered colour and carved marks creating depth across the landscape. I wanted to capture that point in the season when the fields begin to brighten and everything starts to feel more alive again.

I created the work using the reduction linocut technique. Each colour is printed from the same lino block, with more of the surface carved away between every layer. The process continues until the image is complete. Because the block is progressively destroyed during printing, the edition is fixed and cannot be reproduced again.

When Spring Comes is from a limited edition of 12. Each impression is individually inked and printed by hand, so small variations in colour and texture are part of the character of the work.
