Recently I have become fascinated with water. I didn't especially love the sea before, as I am more of a mountain lover. But the movement of the waves, the sound, the texture and the colors it has at sunset made me want to admire it more. This is how this painting came into being, abstract, as are most of my works, the waves being just barely stylized, mingled with white to give the idea of rising waves and foam. Dusk is actually everywhere in the painting as a background, maybe in preparation of a storm at sea. Beneath the layer of paint depicting the waves, I included gold foil in certain places to accentuate the colors of the sunset. The main layer of paint is also cracked in places, even missing a little from the canvas as I wanted to give it an old look, thinking of 18th century England, Jane Austen's novels and big rocks against which the wind and waves smash.
