The painting explores the intricate structure of water through carefully observed forms, crisp details and subtle shifts in tone. The wave has a realistic presence, yet the fluidity of the watercolor medium remains visible in its softer transitions and delicate passages of colour.
Different shapes, highlights and tonal nuances give this wave its own character, while the restrained background creates a sense of space and allows the movement of the water to remain the central focus.
The work is part of my States of Water series, an ongoing exploration of the changing forms, textures and rhythms of water.
