Waterloo Bridge and Beyond (2022) Original Oil Painting by Nicholas Grove

An original oil painting of Waterloo Bridge and the London cityscape beyond, exploring the relationship between the river, architecture and sky.

The movement and reflections of the water offer a contrast to the structure of the bridge and surrounding buildings. My interest was in bringing these elements together while retaining the atmosphere that first drew my attention.

Economical brushwork suggests the scene without describing every detail, leaving room for the viewer’s own experience of this familiar stretch of London.
