One of an ongoing series of paintings called Roadside America, each picture being generally quite melancholy as I have looked for urban scenes in present day America that refer to an earlier age, the Cold War period when I was a child watching American TV series that made me think that it still looked like this even when I finally got there in the late 1970s when it was already disappearing fast. Vaughn is the name of the town where I came across this motel although I have moved things around a bit for compositional reasons.
