Vase Composition XXIII’25 is part of an ongoing investigation into still life as a spatial construct, where the boundary between object and surface dissolves into a continuous field of material and gesture.
The composition is defined by a pair of interwoven vessel forms, traced through a single, uninterrupted line. These contours do not fully enclose volume but instead suggest presence—allowing the forms to exist between abstraction and recognition. The line itself becomes both structure and movement, guiding the eye in a slow, meditative rhythm across the surface.
Executed in punch needle, the work develops as a subtle relief. Wool and alpaca fibers are built layer by layer, creating a tactile topography that responds to light. Shifts in direction and density produce variations in tone, allowing the piece to change perceptually throughout the day.
The linen ground remains visible and active, its irregular texture contrasting with the controlled geometry of the stitched surface. This dialogue between raw material and deliberate construction reflects a sensitivity to imperfection and balance, aligning the work with wabi-sabi philosophy and contemporary material abstraction.
A grounded horizontal plane anchors the composition, introducing a quiet tension between stability and fluidity. Above it, the forms hover—light, open, and unresolved.
Collected by interior designers and featured in luxury hotel interiors, Milena Paladino works are conceived not as decoration, but as a spatial element—bringing depth, calm, and material presence into contemporary interiors.
