Inspiration
Turquoise Beach IV is inspired by the coastline of South Devon and North Cornwall. This large seascape painting show several turquoise and emerald green waves rolling onto a sandy beach. The sky is pale cerulean blue. The light coming through the cresting wave is a combination of turquoise, emerald and teal green. The deep shadow of the wave is a mixture of viridian green, phthalo blue and green and indigo blue. The foreground shows a sea foam swirling about in the surf.
Medium
One of the main reasons I am drawn to oils is their ability to be layered. With oils, you have the ability to build up layers of paint, creating texture and depth in your artwork. This layering technique also allows for a stunning translucency in the final product. As light passes through the layers of paint, it creates a luminous effect that simply cannot be achieved with other mediums. The medium is incredibly robust, meaning that I can manipulate and experiment with it in ways that other mediums simply can't handle. For example, I can use a palette knife to scrape back layers of paint and reveal the colours and textures underneath. Another technique that I love to use with oils is scratching into the paint. This allows me to create intricate details and add a level of texture and dimension to my artwork. Whether it's adding fine lines or creating bold, jagged shapes, the possibilities are endless with oils.

I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2008 at the University of Plymouth. My exhibitions have been throughout Devon and one of my films was been exhibited at the South Bank, London and in Italy. I am a Brixham based artist.
