Though the chicken is one of his relatives,
we would be wrong to mistake him
for some ordinary barnyard bird.

Not for him.

Admire the proud carriage of his head and his fiery colouring.
Neither purple,
nor crimson,
this scarlet red resounds like an oriflamme.

Proud ambassador of his domain,
he knows how to pose with panache.

When he dons his ceremonial attire,
the fan of his plumage unfolds in thousands of shades
for the sole purpose of impressing us.

Well...
Not us.

And yet, we marvel.
