Another one from way back! This is inspired from rural backyard scenes so typical here in Malaysia. The way the paper takes this ink gives the whole picture a soft finish and a soft mood.
Painting was done on location in Mersing, Malaysia where I was residing at the time.

Colour sumi calligraphy inks on Nepal handmade paper, 19 x 15 in., 49 x 38 cm.
This is a parchment paper, strong yet pliable. I got this paper in Nepal oh so long ago. It is often used in print making by crafts persons there. Paper is unbleached. Sad that I haven’t been able to go back there to hunt down more of this unique paper. The sumi inks are from ink sticks which I used to grind on a wet stone. After so many years the paint looks as fresh as when I first made the painting!
The close up picture is to get a feel for the texture and brush strokes of the painting. Then that’s me in the photo of the portfolio photo shoot for this painting.
