Fire Tree (2026) Print by Gesa Reuter

This tree has very often impressed me on my way home. I could see the trunk with the big black hole from the motorway and was often wondering what had happened to him. One day I went to see him from closer by and I was impressed to see that the owners had fixed him with steel ropes. Obviously he had survived a fire and I could not believe that he is still having lots of green leaves in summer. We can survive a lot and this tree is a survivor!

This individual work is done with experimental cyanotype printing.
I make my photographs in nature and use them for my cyanotype prints. I experiment with papers, sizes, patterns, darkness and lightness. The special blue of this technique is very beautiful!

Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that produces a cyan-blue print. Engineers used the process well into the 20th century as a simple process to produce copies of drawings, referred to as blueprints. The process uses two chemicals: ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide.
It is a completely manual process and is revealed with exposure to sunlight.

Each print is done on professional 300g watercolor paper.
All my prints are unique and different in sizes, ways of printing, colour intensity, so they are all one-of-a-kind, although I use the photographs more than once.
