Many years ago, I moved to a small town in the suburbs of Munich. This painting depicts its center—a place that could belong to almost any small European town. An old church, a café, and a newspaper kiosk form the heart of this familiar setting, reflecting the calm rhythm of everyday local life.

Painted quickly and from life, this work retains the freshness and spontaneity of a plein air study. Parts of the white, unprimed canvas are intentionally left untouched, becoming part of the composition.

The painting conveys the atmosphere of summer—airy, calm, and serene—capturing the beauty of an ordinary day.
