Lifeguard tower 5C stands alone on the sand, its blue paint bright against a soft California sky. I photographed it square on, the way an architect draws an elevation, so the small building becomes a portrait.

I am drawn to these towers because they are architecture reduced to its minimum: one room, one stair, one job. Painted, numbered, and repeated down the coast, they carry the whole iconography of the American beach in a few square meters of timber.

This is a museum-quality giclee print on archival fine art paper, made from the original high-resolution file, signed and numbered with a certificate of authenticity. Each print is produced to exhibition standard and shipped rolled in a protective tube.
