In "Touristry," I explore the heavy feeling of being alone even when standing next to someone else. I placed these two women close together, but their minds are in completely different worlds, searching for an identity they cannot find. They look away, lost in a cold, surreal maze of blue walls and sharp shadows, like tourists trapped in a strange, silent simulation. I chose to paint their clothes in bright, warm summer colors to create a sharp contrast with their frozen, emotionless faces. For me, this painting captures the silent melancholy, isolation, and disconnect that many of us feel in today’s modern, sterile world.
