Topaz (2025) Original Acrylic Painting by Diannah Lowry

42 x 42 x 2cm (framed) / 30 x 30cm (actual image size)

£350

I love gemstones and in particular love the quality of Topaz. Its variations in colour from luminescent browns to shades of blue provide a feast of colour choices for a painting. This abstraction interpretation of Topaz is part of my 'Bejewelled' series, inspired by my love of the organic qualities of mineral stones, polished stones and gemstones, and how they reflect light. As with the other works in the Bejewelled series, the inspiration came from a visit to Carnac, where I found a shop with an Aladdin's cave of beautiful mineral jewellery and polished stones. I think I spent as long in the shop as I did exploring Carnac's wonderous standing stones! I loved the light and the transparent quality of many of the polished stones, their luminescence and layers of different colours.
Like my other works in this 'Bejewelled' series of paintings, this work was a joy to paint!
The painting was created using a variety of transparent acrylic colours, and by the use of wax crayon for vigorous mark making.
It comes ready to hang in a white frame in non-reflective Artglass.
