This painting transforms the facade of an old European city into the setting for an unusual romantic story. Amid rich coral, pink, terracotta, golden, and deep blue tones, two windows appear, each revealing a different world. In one, a man sits beside his cat, while in the other, a woman reads a book, completely unaware that someone is watching her.

The man seems to be looking at her from a neighboring window in a vast, invisible house. But instead of walls, this fantastical house has the endless sky. It feels as though another world exists somewhere above the city, invisible to everyone else, where windows can appear directly in the air and connect people separated by an enormous distance.

There is a quiet sense of tenderness and curiosity in his gaze. Perhaps he has been watching the woman from his “window in the sky” for a long time, hoping to see her again each evening. She reads and goes about her life, unaware that she has become someone’s small daily source of joy. There is no conversation between them, no touch — only distance, two windows, and a single gaze that slowly begins to turn into a feeling.

Here, the windows become a symbol of love emerging between two seemingly separate worlds. They keep people apart, yet at the same time allow them to see one another. And with the fantastical sky taking the place of walls, an ordinary story about neighbors becomes an almost fairy-tale encounter between two souls.

This is a painting about a quiet kind of love that can begin with a single glance through a window — even when the space between two people is not a house, but an entire sky.

About artist:

BAST creates artworks in a decorative style, likes to experiment with materials: mosaics, precious stones, glass, paints, texture, etc.

Irina became a laureate of the Recycling Art competition and presented her project at the large citywide festival ARTification.

The artist participated in 23 exhibitions in the USA, Canada, Russia, China and Europe.

In addition, Irina was awarded the diplomas "Best Works of 2016", "Best Works of 2019", a special diploma for creativity (International Association VATIKAM, France, Paris) and has a letter of thanks from the Luxembourg Art Prize.
